Emergency Evacuation Update (August 2023)

Tue, 01 Aug 2023

We are so grateful to share that our children and majority of our staff have safely made it through the capital, onto our final destination, in northern Haiti. As you know from our previous posts, this move has been highly anticipated, logistically, very complicated, and financially burdensome. But, as always, God has been super faithful.

We are so grateful to each and every one of you that have prayed and given.

Thank you so much- so very much for your prayers, your generosity, and for loving people. People that many of you don’t even know. They are worthy of being able to live without fear of not returning home- you have shown them this through your support.

The move was quick and very labor-some.

Our women and youngest children went first. We knew that if they were stopped by the gangs, they would likely be allowed through and not be held for ransom.

Later, a truck with some of our belongings and our personal vehicle with our male staff went through the gang area with security. So grateful to report that we did not have any issues.

Our young children and women stayed at a local hotel for a couple nights while the men and older boys worked so hard to put beds together, as well as make sure we had electricity for cooking and other basic needs.

It has been an extremely hot (weather is quite different where we came from), long, tiresome, bittersweet week. It is not easy to leave behind what has been your home, your friends, and your family. Survivors guilt also sets in.

But we are all so grateful.

Our new community is a breath of fresh air. In the capital, it was unheard of to be out the dark. Yesterday, some of our children and staff were able to go to a Christian concert in the Town Square and return home after dark with the hundreds of others in attendance.

We have been able to take walks through the community and not fear who might be coming up behind us.

We have been blown away at the amount of people on the streets living their every day life, without fear.

So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. I wish you all can see firsthand what your love has meant to our Haiti family.
