Going to the Dominican Republic with Second Chance was something that had been on my heart after having experienced two trips to Haiti in 2019.
My experience with Second Chance began in the fall of 2018 ahead of my first trip to Haiti in February of the following year and what God did in my life over the course of that year was mind-blowing. Getting to spend time with the children at the orphanage (something that anyone who knows me would tell you was definitely out of my comfort zone) was an experience that changed me immensely and afterwards I knew that God was calling me to continue to work with Second Chance going forward and I went on my second trip in August.
When COVID started it put the brakes on everything and while I knew I wanted to continue to be a part of what Second Chance was doing I struggled to figure out just how I was supposed to be involved. I had such a powerful experience being on those trips that I knew I wanted to go back, but between COVID and then the unrest in the country that didn't seem likely. After learning that Second Chance was going to start sending teams to the Dominican Republic I knew that I wanted to be a part of a trip and schedules finally aligned so that I could attend the one in February. Once again, being a part of what Second Chance is doing on the ground was a powerful experience and being able to witness and be a part of someone coming to know Jesus was a definite highlight.
Second Chance has become an incredibly important part of my personal story, but after returning from my third trip I knew that just going on a trip periodically wasn't to be the extent of my involvement. I've personally seen the impact that Second Chance is having on the people of Haiti and becoming an Ambassador was a step that I knew God was leading me towards. God is continuing to work in the lives of people in Haiti and the Dominican Republic through Second Chance and I'm excited to see what God is going to continue doing!
